Bangladeshi Women’s Welfare Rights Project

The Bangladeshi Women’s Welfare Rights Project was set up in 2004 by Westminster Citizens Advice Bureau and Marylebone Bangladesh Society within the borough of Westminster. Since 2004, this project has helped one of the deprived Bengali societies in Westminster improve their lives by maximising their income, helping them to manage their debts and by empowering them to make a decision and act on their action in order to resolve their issue. As a result the number of repeat clients or repeat queries has fallen each year. This project also advises client on immigration matter, family and personal, consumer, housing, employment, discrimination etc.

Advice Given To A Bengali Woman

This project plays an important part in the creation of social policies and services and reinforces it. Social policy is to prevent from same thing happening again. We are currently trying to do as many social policies as we can in order to prevent homelessness, discrimination and stop bailiffs getting involved.

In 2008, we received funding from Westminster City Council for another three years for continuation of this project and we hope to carry on doing good work that will satisfy our clients.
